Start with the helmet shell. At present, there are three common helmet shell materials on the market: thermoplastic, glass fiber and carbon fiber. Thermoplastic is not suitable for motorcycle helmets, with poor impact resistance and the lowest price. If you like helmets, but don't know what the shell is made of, give it up.

However, polycarbonate is also a thermoplastic. Its physical properties are better than ordinary thermoplastics, and its price is cheaper. It is often combined with acrylonitrile butadiene copolymer, which is a common so-called ABS engineering plastic material. The helmet shell made of this material has good impact resistance, and is generally the preferred shell material for low-end helmets.

Glass fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) is the common name of glass fiber. Its physical properties are better and more stable than ABS engineering plastics, and can stand the test of time. This is the primary material for high-end helmets.

The housing made of carbon fiber is usually combined with Kevlar polymer material. Carbon fiber material has good structural strength, while the latter has excellent tensile capacity, so it is a perfect combination with high strength and light weight. The only disadvantage is the high price, which is usually the combination of materials selected for high-end helmets.

Buffer layer is also the main part of helmet. In a sense, this is a buffer layer. When you hit your head, it can prevent you from being strongly shocked, which is very important.

At present, the cushion layer of most motorcycle helmets is made of EPS foam, but there is certain stress. A good helmet cushion should be composed of two or more layers of EPS foam. The outer layer is hard and the inner layer is soft, which can absorb impacts of different strengths. However, cheap helmets only tell you the buffer layer of ordinary EPS foam, not how many layers there are, so they are more likely to be single-layer foam.

Start with the lining. Linings usually do not provide direct protection. Its purpose is to make the helmet completely suitable for your head shape, providing stability and comfort. The lining of cheap helmets cannot be removed, so when the head sweats a lot in summer, it will be soaked quickly. Then the next day you are still wearing this smelly helmet, and it is hard to wash the sweat stains out of it. Good helmet pads should be removable. In addition, the sponge in the bushing can also be removed independently. Although this design is not high-tech, it will greatly increase the cost of manufacturers. Therefore, manufacturers who really put quality first will have such designs.
